add --action cmdline, make -o optional, partially implement usage of stdout as output_file
This patch introduces the --action command line argument. It can
override the action determined by the file name suffix and enables
writing to stdout (where no suffix exists).
-o is now optional and defaults to "<inputfile>.<action>".
